`                                                                              Notes on the super outbreak

                                The super outbreak was the worlds longest and most destructive tornado ever recorded. April 3rd through the 4th 1974, there were 148 tornados  through 13 states.These states were Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, and New York.These  tornados varied in intensity from f-0s to f-5s. In the end 315 people died,6000 were injured and 27000 family's properties were damaged.

                                                                                   XENIA,OHIO (tornado #37)

 

         The Xenia f-5 was the most damaging tornado in the super outbreak.The tornado killed 32 people,injured 1150,and destroyed half of all the buildings in Xenia.It was estimated to have winds over 50 mph.After the tornado was over 20 new tornado sirens were installed.

 

 

 

 

 

                                                       Guin,Ms-Al (tornado #101)

The tornado in Guin was the second most damaging tornado in the super outbreak.It was the longest super outbreak tornado wit a duration time of 122 minutes and a path length of 102 miles.There were 30 deaths and 280 injuries in all.It had winds over 50 mph.

 

  Brandenburg, KY (tornado #47)

This was the third most damaging tornado during the super outbreak.It crossed over 34 miles during a time period of 54 minutes.There were 31 deaths and 270 injuries.It had an average speed of40 mph.
